Microsoft Reveals Windows Mobile 6
Written by Meraj Chhaya on February 11, 2007 – 11:30 am
Microsoft had given a briefing on the upcoming Windows Mobile 6 also known as Crossbow, to a French newspaper on the condition that the information be kept secret until its release which was supposed to happen next week.
In the meantime, the newspaper decided to publish an article yesterday
and gave all the details it had learned on Windows Mobile 6. It’s quite surprising that Microsoft didn’t consider this before sharing all the info with a newspaper seeing how rumors pop out even when no information is given.
So bottom line is that with or without wanting to, Microsoft has in a way pre-announced Windows Mobile 6 quite a few days earlier than intended. The full announcement is apparently still scheduled for the 12th of February.
Also, a few days ago, a Japanese Microsoft employee published a snapshot of what appeared to be a screenshot of Windows Mobile 6 and some information on what the new operating system will include.
Several rumors about Windows Mobile 6 have been confirmed. It looks like the Pocket PC version will display HTML-formated e-mail and include improved versions of the Mobile Office applications.
The smartphone version will bring significant changes and will include Mobile Office applications allowing users to view and edit Word, Excel and PowerPoint files. Windows Mobile 6 will also include a version of Windows Live, enabling users to chat with more than one person at a time, send files or images or record and send voice notes.
After all the leaks and rumors, Microsoft will apparently announce Windows Mobile 6 next week at the 3GSM Congress in Barcelona and according to them, devices running the operating system will be made available worldwide by the second quarter

NTT DoCoMo Achieves Data Transmission of Almost 5Gbps
Written by Meraj Chhaya on February 11, 2007 – 11:28 am
Japan’s leading mobile operator, NTT DoCoMo came close to hitting another data transmission milestone while researching the next-generation cellular phone systems during an experiment conducted last year, on December
the 25th in Yokosuka, Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan.
The company managed to transmit data at almost 5GBps to a receiver that was moving at 10km per hour, according to Yoshiki Kakuda, a spokesman for the Tokyo Company.
He also said that the company’s public relations department didn’t know the exact speed that was achieved, but that it was quite close to 5GBps. NTT DoCoMO has been working on the 4G technology for almost 10 years but they’ve still got a long way to go before it is launched.
The company is currently planning to launch 4G in Japan by 2010 but also indicated that it first plans to speed-up its WCDMA 3G network before switching to a new technology.
Approximately a year ago, NTT DoCoMo managed to transmit data at 2.5GBps, and this time they managed to double that by increasing the number of MIMO transmitting and receiving antennas from six to twelve and using better signal processing in the receiver.
As compared to the test in December 2005, the frequency spectrum efficiency was also doubled from 25bps/Hz to 50bps/Hz.The mobile operator also plans to launch a ‘Super 3G’ service by 2010 that will offer data transmission at approximately 100Mbps. NTT DoCoMO will present all the details on this recent experiment next week at the 3GSM World Congress in Barcelona.
The company has also announced that it is looking forward to contributing to the global standardization of 4G through its ongoing research and development.

The Toy-Like Cellphone - DNET V1
Written by Meraj Chhaya on February 11, 2007 – 11:26 am

Every one likes a different thing in a cellphone. Some people like the phones that come with a huge battery life and basic communication functions, others like their phones with a bit of smart touch and maybe you like the handsets that make you stand out in a crowd.
The phones that will make you the one individual everybody stares at while walking on the street usually have striking colors or feature all sorts of funny interchangeable faces.
But there are some that catch the eye by their very design and
, during the last year, I’m sure you saw at least some examples of such cellphones.
The handset I’m writing about here seems to fit quite naturally in this niche of the market. If you will decided to buy one of these devices I assure the people will look after you on the street asking themselves why are you holding your hand next to your ear.
The first thing crossing their mind will be a Bluetooth enabled headset but after seeing the phone you have in the palm of your hand I guess the next step will be to ask permission to take a closer look at it.
The DNET V1 cellphone is exactly the kind of phone that will make everyone curios about it not because of its high-tech spec sheet or its eye catching colors.
Its small size (97 x 39 x 9.8 mm) is its stand-out feature and, most probably, the one thing that will make you pay the money to have the opportunity to lose it in one of your pockets.
The dual-band GSM phone works on 900 / 1800 MHz networks and features a 1.5 inch 260k colors TFT LCD display with a 128 x 160 pixels resolution, a 1.3 megapixel digital camera, a built-in media player with support for audio and video files (MP3 and MPEG4), miniUSB and GPRS class 10 connectivity and, the dream of every multimedia fan out there, a microSD (T-Flash) memory expansion card slot.
As I already said its top feature is its small size and if you’re the “make it as small as it gets” kind of guy (girl) I’m sure you are already having thoughts about buying it.
