N78 a new N73

The new N73 was supposed to be N82, but I think that the N78 does practicaly the same job.

Unfortunately there is no camera improvement, it’s the same old 3.2 megapixel, although there are no changes in resolutions, the digital zoom hits 20x, and thankfully there is VGA recording, but only at 15fps, which I really don’t understand. The flash is still LED, I guess the Xenon will be an exclusive of the N82 on the N-series range (Yes, I do know that the 6220 classic has it).

The accelerometer wasn’t implemented, and as an excuse, the Product Manager stated that it was lack of room, in which the AGPS IC was inserted.

The resolution on Nokias hasn’t changed, although QVGA is still acceptable for 2.4" displays such as this one. Apparently the display is improved, as it produces a wide 160° viewing angle, and the ambient light detector is theer to improve power consumption, something that I never seen with my N95, as the display brightness seems the same the whole day.

On the network side, there is Dual HSPA and Quad band EDGE networks, but there might be need for a US version as there is a different WCDMA band, but according to the Product Manager this will take some time as there is certificate testing.

There is no built in storage such as its counterpart N96, but the usual 2GB microSD is included and it most probably supports SDHC.

Approx. memory capacity indication with included 2GB microSD card:
- Video (VGA @ 15fps): up to 120 min
- Photos (3.2 megapixel): up to 3,400 photos
- Music (eAAC+): up to 1,500 tracks*

When I come accross the feature of Geotagging which is built in the device, we have to remember that to get a GPS lock takes atleast 30 seconds unless there is a location saved. If you want to take a photo it will eventually take some time to process as the GPS coordinates have to be added to the header of the file. For geotagging I would prefer a faster chip such as the Sift Star 3.

Thanks to the geotagging application compatibility you don’t have to upload it to a image host to pinpoint the capture location, it will be associated with Nokia Maps.

Now that I’m talking about Maps, I presume that Nokia Maps 2.0 with RTTI, which is a feed from traffic servers, and hybrid views will be included.

We have seen also that the new devices will have microUSB instead of miniUSB, but I’m not sure that charging will work through the microUSB port, I will hae to see in the pictures if there is a port or not.
