An unnamed executive at Australia’s Telstra has leaked that the upcoming Apple iPhone 3G will support Evolved HSPA at 42mbps. This is rather strange as the first iPhone didn’t even have 3G, and the second will have a future type of connectivity which is still in testing phase.

“We know what is coming, we have seen the new device and it will be available on our network as soon as it is launched in the USA, by Christmas this phone will be capable of 42mbs which will make it faster than a lot of broadband offerings and the fastest iPhone on any network in the world,” said the executive.

AT&T next year should make available 3G networks at 7.2mbps, so as Apple has its main customers in the USA, it will probably not include a Evolved HSPA chip.
