Mozilla Firefox mobile concept - Fennec
Written by Meraj Chhaya on June 13, 2008 – 11:37 pm
Fennec - the codename for Mozilla Firefox mobile - is far from here. Not too far I hope. Our much loved browser and preferred alternative to Microsoft Internet Explorer is in production. The current leader is mobile browser obviously must be Opera Mini. The high quality and computer-like browsing we experience in browsers such as the S60 one, the IE for Windows Mobile, Opera Mini itself, NetFront, Safari, etc, is benefiting from the competition between manufacturers to provide users the joy and reason-of-use of high-speed connectivity found in phones. With technologies such as HSDPA and WiFi, many people wonder of what to use the internet for. These browsers give them the reason.
Firefox has been long loved for its faster response, atleast much faster from IE, and the variety of plugins available for it. Having one in a mobile phone is the dream of most of us, and Fennec will fulfil our dream. What you will read from the Head of User Experience at Mozilla Labs will sound that they are just constructing a browser for large-touchscreen phones, but rest assured as this is just the best part of it, and “Fennec” should be available for everything else as well.

SE Walkman Alicia high-end phone for Sept. 08
Written by Meraj Chhaya on June 13, 2008 – 11:13 pm
A new Sony Ericsson Walkman has surfaced. There is no information on any of the specifications or even the name itself. What we do know is the codename, which is Alicia.
What I can sort of confirm is that it will be a high-end device, and it should release on September this year, and this is according to our Sony Ericsson roadmap for release dates.
As you can see, Alicia is a clamshell Walkman that looks like the the Sony Ericsson W980 on the numeric keypad part.
There is a hidden external display and what seems to be a navi-wheel, and according to a poster at esato forums, it will display the weather or animations. The phone will also change themes according to the time of the day.
We can’t notice any high specification camera on the phone from the leaked pictures, but by being a high-end device we expect it to have HSDPA, Bluetooth, GPS, and perhaps WLAN. We might be wrong, but what would you expect from such a classification, and at this stage in time?
More pictures and the video after the jump.

Apple iPhone 3G hands-on opinions, pics
Written by Meraj Chhaya on June 13, 2008 – 7:51 pm
Not many had the chance to legally touch the new iPhone 3G, besides those that broke the NDA agreement are Laptop Mag and Engadget, and here’s some of their notes:
- They got 215kBps on a data speed test on 3G network.
- You can enable/disable 3G, but there is no dual mode.
- Geotagging is built-in.
- The display looks the same.
- It has a thicker feeling due to the round back.
- The plastic doesn’t feel cheap, but it’s solid, although it will attract many fingerprints.
- The power adaptor, or charger, is a small square.
- There is a separately-sold docking station.
- No mention of clipboard features or MMS.
- Original Apple iPhone are discontinued.

Written by Meraj Chhaya on June 13, 2008 – 7:28 pmThe above picture is an-almost accurate Photoshop of the upcoming Sony Ericsson F305. The F-series might be dedicated to gaming, and the above device will the first of its kind for Sony Ericsson. What we would expect from such a phone is a high resolution display, 3D hardware accelerator, gaming controls, a fast processor, a lot of RAM, and an advanced Operating System.

Patent: Nokia Aeon-like cylinder phone
Written by Meraj Chhaya on June 13, 2008 – 7:13 pmIf you remember the Nokia Aeon concept, which can divide it’s touchscreen into different places, you will notice how this patent can become a reality, although in this simple diagram it looks incredibly weird. The design is called Jacobs Ladder flipping hinge arrangement. Mr Jacobs’ imagination might lead to a huge phone, especially if you consider that the device is supposed to open up like a Communicator.
