Samsung i450 review – Connectivity
Written by Meraj Chhaya on July 4, 2008 – 4:22 pm
Coming to an end of our Samsung i450 review, so read on, and stay tuned for the next parts!
The phone possesses HSDPA at 3.6mbps, as well as EDGE and GPRS, but no HSCSD. At this point in time most phones need to have HSDPA, and the i450 is a phone that needs to be future-proof in order to be attractive. Video calls and fast internet are therefore very important.
There is Bluetooth v2.0 but no Infrared. I don’t need to discuss anything about Bluetooth as it’s a requirement in all phones today, and Infrared would just occupy unnecessary space as it’s becoming useless. The Samsung port, featured on the above image, allows USB v2.0 connections, instead of including a miniUSB or microUSB port.

Symbian to be open source - analysis
Written by Meraj Chhaya on July 4, 2008 – 3:43 pm
Back in January I wrote an article regarding Symbian, and what would happen if it became Open Source. I compared it to Google Android, Linux, and Windows, for us to get to know the implications. Six months have gone by and there have been changes in the market. You get hacked S60 devices, modified internet tablets with Google Android, and even N95s with Google Android.
I have now realised that making more code available is not only good for developers, but also for the consumer. However, the consumer will still have to do extra work, as developing companies won’t make things any easier.
You’ll be able to use code to write your own programs to customize the Operating Systems, but internal features are still going to remain secret, and if you want to edit your phone to internal point, you will still have to “hack” it.

iPhone 3G updates for Portugal
Written by Meraj Chhaya on July 4, 2008 – 12:17 am
The iPhone 3G pre-orders have been selling out, and when I went to check with some companies, I noted something strange. In Portugal, with Optimus you can get the iPhone 3G 8GB and 16GB. The 16GB version can be selected black or white, but the 8GB doesn’t have colour selection, and a quick check on iPhone’s technical specifications page confirms that, it will only retail in the black colour. Optimus has gone
to their second selling phase, there are no numbers, but it should be high. To pre-order with Optimus, you will need to pay 50€ which will confirm your device, according to their press release. Furthermore, Mobile Number Portability is guaranteed, this means that you can keep any number out of the network and still buy the iPhone 3G with them, in other words, buy it in prepaid, without any contracts.
Vodafone Portugal is also allowing pre-orders, but there you cannot select any specification, but they were kind enough to leave a link for the 360 degree view of both white and black iPhone 3G.
