Samsung i8510 INNOV8 review out already

Written by Meraj Chhaya on August 8, 2008 – 1:15 am

GSMArena has published a comprehensive, yet introductory review of the recently announced 8 megapixel, 16GB S60 camera-phone Samsung i8510 INNOV8. The most interesting part should be how the mobile copes in terms of data transfer, and the quality of the camera.

One of the highlights, a small but important ignored detail is the touchpad. It seems that the new addition to Samsung phones works just like a notebook touchpad, but only for the web browser, which I will be happy with.

Other details are the 2.8″ display, although with a poor resolution, a 3.5mm audio jack, a TV-out, and plenty of shortcuts, which complete the mobile phone and place it at the world’s best spot. The only thing missing, I say, is the touchscreen, and a better resolution.

From Samsung’s side there could be addition pre-sales marketing, just like on Nokia’s side. I spoke to Mathia Nalappan at the ESeries event and asked him why doesn’t Nokia engage in the type of marketing that Apple does. He didn’t seem to have much of an answer and thanked me for the suggestion…

Getting back to the i8510 review, the team finds the user interface, S60 3rd edition Feature Pack 2 the same old boring, but on the auto rotation detail, it enjoys the fact that there is a fancy transition. Also worth of notice that the 16GB announced memory is actually 14.9GB, a whole GB taken away! On the GPS side, Route 66 is installed, as well as Google Maps.

The most awaited detail, the camera includes the following shooting modes: 3264 x 2448 pixels resolution, mechanical shutter, ISO control (50-1600), geotagging, automatic panorama shooting, face detection, smile detection, and blink detection. The device was a pre-production unit, so there is more to expect from it, but even from this early stage the camera shots were of a higher quality than any other camera-phone capture, according to the team.
