Zeemote signs Nokia and Sony Ericsson

Written by Meraj Chhaya on August 15, 2008 – 9:04 pm

zeemote-js1-in-action-300x130 Zeemote signs Nokia and Sony EricssonZeemote’s JS1 Bluetooth mobile gaming controller has attracted 15 of top publishers in Europe, according to the company. The JS1 was announced last week in Netherlands, and at the next week’s Games Convention show in Leipzig, the company will showcase the controller’s use with Nokia NGage supported phones.

Nokia will also advertise the Bluetooth joystick in its online and offline media channels, besides including it with mobile phones.

Sony Ericsson has announced that it will bundle the joystick for free with its W760i Walkman phone for free, and one of the games to play it with is Tomb Raider Anniversary, which is one of the two games included in the phone. The offer will only be available until the end of October, but Zeemote worldwide sales VP Jim Adams says that this is the first of many deals.

Sony Ericsson to open online music store

Written by Meraj Chhaya on August 15, 2008 – 8:51 pm

sony-ericsson-logo Sony Ericsson to open online music storeJust like Nokia, Sony Ericsson is set to battle on the almost-saturated online music store market. The company has a lot of success with their Walkman music phones, and marketing the service correctly could bring in just the right amount of consumers.

Nokia Music Store has opened in about 12 countries, and the number is set to increase gradually. Sony Ericsson will have a tough time catching up, unless they deploy a global technique and not individual. Providing each country with their own music is more profitable, but it consumes time, and time is money.

Sony Ericsson’s marketing director, David Hilton, told the Mobile Today website: ‘We’ve approached and had discussions with all the operators, and a number of those talks are still ongoing. It’s a good commercial opportunity.’

The Music store will be integrated in the PlayNow service, but with many operators such as O2 and Vodafone launching their own stores, it will be tough to play in this market. LG is also set to play in the market, with its MusicStation Max online music store for mobile phones.

Nokia N79 and N85 to debut Monday?

Written by Meraj Chhaya on August 15, 2008 – 8:24 pm

n79-and-n85-launch-291x300 Nokia N79 and N85 to debut Monday? In UK, iGadget Life just received an email from a PR agency on behalf of Nokia, saying that they are invited to a online pre-launch of new two devices, ahead of the official launch.

I can’t see any information about it being N79, N85, or any NSeries for that matter, but those are the phones in speculation at the moment. It would be very strange for Nokia to make a sudden launch, ahead of the N96’s official retail date, and just after the N78’s retail release.

The N85 recently has gone through FCC approval. Which might point out soon announcement.

In my opinion, it has to be two other phones than NSeries or ESeries, but I wouldn’t know. Perhaps Nokia is trying to release all crap stock to make space for potential competitors against the Sony Ericsson C905 and Samsung iNNOV8. Who knows? I have’t gotten anything yet from Nokia’s PR company in South Africa, but if we have any news, which we should at 8am UK time Monday, we will post them here. Now, if you will excuse me, I have to set up my alarm.

Why drivers get fined for being on the phone

Written by Meraj Chhaya on August 15, 2008 – 8:09 pm

mercedes-brabus-rocket-cls-police-car-300x213 Why drivers get fined for being on the phoneWith a variety of Bluetooth headsets and car kits, one would wonder why drivers are still getting fined for being on the phone while driving a car. The reason might be complication, or laziness, which is more probable. With technologies such as NFC coming up, connection between accessories and phones will be more automatized, and then, no one will have excuse. Let’s look at some of the excuses that are made:

  • “I haven’t figured out how to use my Bluetooth yet!”
  • “I was trying to find out if the volume was up on my phone because I couldn’t hear anything out of my Bluetooth”
  • “The fine is just a business expense, I’ll write it off.”
  • “I just plain forgot about the law.”
  • “I can’t stand that stupid ear piece.”
  • “I have the blue tooth but don’t know how to connect it to the phone.”
  • “I had it on speaker.” (While still holding it in their hand.)
  • “My Bluetooth doesn’t work. The battery is dead.”
  • “I was waiting to get a ticket before I spend money on a Bluetooth.”
  • “My wife said I sounded like I was in a toilet so I switched back to cell.”
  • “I heard it was a second offence thing and you cannot stop me just for talking.”
  • “Is it not more of a hazard to fumble around trying to get the ear thing in?”
  • “I wasn’t using my phone. I was just resting my head against it!”
  • One driver, when spotted by a motorcycle officer, flipped his cell phone shut and acted as if he was using an electric shaver while driving.
