N82 vs N95 vs K850i vs G800 camera shoot-out

The camera is the reason why you are probably reading this  comparison review. You should already know which phone has the best camera of them all, as it won the TIPA (Technical Image Press Association) award this year. The N82, G800, and K850i have Xenon flash, while the N95 has a LED flash. The G800 is the only one which has a 3x optical zoom, which makes it capable of getting the top place just for the additional feature. The N95 and N82 both have geo-tagging capability.

The first test is in artificial light, automatic mode. The room is lit by a light bulb, and the object in focus is about 2.5m from the camera, 2m in from the floor. The light bulb is hanging 3m from the floor, and it's about 3.5m from the object. The wall is white, and the light bulb obviously gives it a very light yellow colour. The target is finding the best focus while preserving a good colour.

The flash did shoot in all phones.

At the first glance, we can see that the N82 and N95 have an advantage as the environment colour is portrayed quite correctly. The K850i stays behind with a duller light, and the G800 stays completely out of the game with its mediocre capture.

What matters most is the object in focus, in this case, a green Sporting cap, with the symbol in the middle, and a yellow outline. The N82 focused fantastically, while the N95's capture seems quite dull, and the K850i has some noise in the image, even though it renders it much better than the N95 (ignore the light), and as you were expecting, the G800 does stay out of the game with its completely blurred picture.

Before I go any further, I've had some complaints that the G800's camera is very dark in pictures and sometimes very blurry. The moving parts of the optical zoom might have to do something with it, but it's just not acceptable, because not even the N93 is as bad.

Once again we have the same scenario, but all the camera's are on incandescent mode, which means that they are aware of the current light sensitivity, and I hope this improves the K850i and G800 capture.

All the camera phones did badly in this capture test. They should have been left in automatic mode. The K850i still makes grey out of a white wall, and the G800 replaced the previous image's yellow with a purple. Not much of a difference here.

Next up is the medium distance “high up” test. All I did was find a building about 30 metres from me, a target that is 5 metres from the ground, and shoot. I was lucky enough to have a blue sky, strong daylight, and an electricity wire passing over (not that the batteries were empty).

In this comparison of the full images, it seems that the image in the middle, captured by my N95, did the best. It has the strongest blue on the sky, the shade is contrasting nicely, and the sunlight is pretty intense. And it is like that, as you will see in the next excerpt, the N95 does have a fantastic colour.

Now here it is obvious that the N95 has the best colour, but the N82 and K850i have the best focus, just look at the pipes, and the electricity cable. The N82's colour is quite close to the N95's one, besides the sky, so the N82 has both the colour, and the focus. The G800...umm let's not talk about that one...
