Vodafone purchases 70% of Ghana Telecom

vodafone-logo-300x209 Vodafone purchases 70% of Ghana TelecomAgainst the wishes of the opposition party of the ruling government of Ghana, the parliament has decided to sell 70% of the nation’s telecommunications network to the European giant.

Vodafone acquired the large stake for 900m US$. The government will hold 30% of the network.

17% or 1.4m of the consumers of Ghana subscribe to the network, which is now valued at 1.3 billion US$.

Vodafone is making their way up the continent, partly with Vodacom, which already possesses networks in countries such as South Africa, Congo, Tanzania, Lesotho, and Mozambique.

Vodafone’s deal in Ghana is beneficial for the country as the company has a large capital which can improve Ghana Telecom’s offerings to the consumers.
