music-categories Samsung SGH-G800 review - MultimediaBesides the video editor and camera application, which are in different sections, the G800 provides a satisfactory music player and a Fun Club link almost everywhere in the phone.

The music player kept itself to simple functions, and it was to the point. No music store or podcasting applications here, as well as no visualizations. Besides the ability to shuffle and repeat, there are categories to help you organize your music, such as:

  • Recently played – very much needed in phones, thumbs up to Sammy for this inclusion!
  • Most played
  • Artists
  • Genres
  • Albums
  • Composers – never seen this category full, most of tracks never have this tag detailed

Although the sound intensity is part of the hardware section, it was worth to remember that the sound is extremely soft, which makes this phone very much useless for music playback, and it also affects loudspeaker functionality.

The music player is the only application that can really multitask. In desktop view, it contains a small useful music bar to enable music playback control. This is also a problem, as you cannot exit the music player on its application, but you have to end it on the desktop control. The background player is also available on other applications.

Fun Club provides music, games, wallpapers, sound effects, social network links, a link to the Samsung Blog, and few sponsored links as well such as MK, and chat with YOTV. These are of course, services for South Africa. The only problem is that Fun Club isn’t an application built on the device, but it’s accessible through a website.
