uiq technology logo UIQ Bankruptcy Leaves 200 JoblessSymbian software platform developer, UIQ, has filed for bankruptcy at a district court in Sweden, said UIQ Chief Executive Johan Sandberg. The company has 200 employees, who won't find a problem finding a job in the now, more-than-ever, booming Symbian ecosystem.

"There are no opportunities to create a new line of business in the current financial climate," UIQ Chief Executive Johan Sandberg told Reuters.

Nokia completed its acquisition of Symbian last month, and donated it to the Symbian Foundation, thus eliminating any possible profit that UIQ could have while working on its current strategy. The viable option would be to turn itself into a sub-contractor for network operators and manufacturers, but UIQ's joint owners Sony Ericsson and Motorola decided to cut its life short, as it would not be suitable for their needs.
