Android 2.2 Froyo Released for Samsung Epic 4G

Samsung Epic 4G Android 2.2 Froyo 180x300 Android 2.2 Froyo Released for Samsung Epic 4GOVERLAND PARK, USA - The Google Android 2.2 Froyo firmware update is now available for Sprint customers who own the Samsung Epic 4G. For some, it may only be released later this month.

For those users who prefer to take shortcuts instead of waiting, experts have compiled a guide, which consists of downloading the update file, moving it to the root folder of the Epic 4G and renaming it "update.zip", boot the handset in "recovery mode", and apply the "sdcard" update. Alternatively, users can simply wait, as the update should reach everyone by the end of this month.

The Froyo update brings speed, memory and performance optimisations, speed improvement in apps thanks to JIT implementation, the V8 JavaScript engine from Chrome, further Microsoft Exchange components, USB and Wi-Fi tethering, Adobe Flash 10.1, the ability to install apps on memory cards, voice dialling over Bluetooth, and several other improvements.

The Epic 4G, also know as the Samsung Galaxy S Pro, is an Android smartphone with a slide-out QWERTY keyyboard, a 4" Super AMOLED touchscreen display protected by Gorilla Glass, an ARM Cortex A8 chip at 1GHz processor and 512MB of RAM, GPS, HSDPA, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, a 5 megapixel camera with auto-focus and an LED flash, and a microSD memory card slot.

    Just installed update on onto Epic 4G and the update appears to be working 100% without any flaws!

    NOT TRUE! The update that’s hit the web is a leaked copy. Many users (myself included) found this update disables GPS as well as other less notable bugs. It’s not “official” until Sprint starts putting it on your phone. Until then it’s a leak or experimental release (like a beta).

    Confirmed what Marc says. I did the update and completely lost the GPS. Wonderful.
