WATERLOO, Canada - The Bluetooth watch for BlackBerry that has been doing the rounds in the web for the last few weeks has been made official now. Canadian mobile accessory vendor Allerta formally announced the availability of its BlackBerry Bluetooth accessory inPulse.
Contrary to popular beliefs, neither is the watch a standalone BlackBerry phone nor is it manufactured by Research in Motion (RIM). The watch is just a Bluetooth accessory for BlackBerry devices which is capable of displaying alerts of incoming calls/messages and events wirelessly on the watch display. Manufactured by Waterloo-based start-up Allerta, the inPulse is the first and only Bluetooth watch accessory for BlackBerry in market.
In addition to displaying alerts of incoming calls/messages and events, the watch is also able to retrieve email and Twitter updates from the connected BlackBerry phone. The accessory is being promoted as an indigenous handsfree solution for BlackBerry devices.

The watch is equipped with a 1.3" OLED display, Bluetooth, a 150mAh lithium-ion polymer battery, glass lens and full metal body, a 22mm interchangeable wrist band, vibrating motor for vibration alerts, and a microUSB port for charging the battery. While the inPulse is not as handy as the watch phones from LG and Sony Ericsson (Sony Ericsson MBW-150), the Bluetooth accessory has its own advantages with its handsfree function being the USP of this innovative product for the BlackBerry smartphones.
The inPulse is priced at US$149 and is available for pre-order at the manufacturer's website with expected shipping dates at early February 2010.
