BlackBerry Thunder 9530 is after all Storm?

Written by Meraj Chhaya on August 29, 2008 – 12:11 am

blackberry-9530-storm-unboxing-on-verizon-300x152 BlackBerry Thunder 9530 is after all Storm?BlackBerry Thunder, BlackBerry Storm, or BlackBerry ThunderStorm? All we know is that RIM is going to send us some bad weather. The latest information points out to a BlackBerry Storm 9530 on the Verizon network.

The Storm will come included with an 8GB microSD memory card, and a preinstalled SIM card, which honestly, I don’t know what it means.

There will still be a BlackBerry Thunder, but that will come with AT&T, Vodafone, and Rogers. Enjoy the “unboxing” picture taken to a whole new level.

BlackBerry 8220 Pearl/Kickstart price & details

Written by Meraj Chhaya on August 22, 2008 – 12:08 am

blackberry-8220-pearl-kickstart-red-94x300 BlackBerry 8220 Pearl/Kickstart price & detailsBlackBerry’s first clamshell phones, the 8220 and 8210 have already been confused on whether carrying the name Pearl or Kickstart.  The specifications are out, and now we have the prices and the colours.

The colours available will be red and black. Few other news are the inclusion of CellData, a response to Google’s My Location.

The pricing is only out for Canada on the Rogers network, where it will be marketed as a “Back to School” product. The retail price will be 600$, the 3-Year Voice and Data Contract Price will be 100$ per month, and the special student promotion price will be 45$, where the student will be required to pay for the $45 Student Plan, $15 Email Plan, and $15 or $20 Value Pack. The special student promotion pack will probably add up to 85$ after taxes.

3G issues on BlackBerry Bold and iPhone 3G

Written by Meraj Chhaya on August 21, 2008 – 10:59 pm

BlackBerry Bold users have noticed that there are 3G issues on the device, as the signal drops in certain locations and the same goes to the iPhone 3G. The Bold apparently has a software issue, while the iPhone 3G fault hasn’t been pointed out yet.

“We had a few occasional 3G signal dropping troubles at some locations especially on high-rises building streets & on our 34th floor (EDGE picked up immediately but slower internet speeds),” wrote Suva, a Citigroup analyst. He thinks RiM have delayed introducing the Bold because they want to iron out the 3G kinks with a software patch.

The Bold has been released not long ago and is set to compete against the Nokia E71 and the upcoming Palm Treo Pro. The phone is a business smartphone, also known as the BlackBerry 9000.

The iPhone 3G has had many more complaints, but it has been available for longer than the Bold. Apple’s second phone is in a market where it usually crushes the competition, but it isn’t available in many countries. 50 more countries should receive in by the end of the year.

Below is a video portraying the differences between the iPhone Safari browser, and the Bold’s browser. Download the video, or embed it.

Another eXpansys leak - BlackBerry 8210, 8220

Written by Meraj Chhaya on August 19, 2008 – 6:56 pm

blackberry-8220-pearl-press-image-264x300 Another eXpansys leak - BlackBerry 8210, 8220That’s right, besides the BlackBerry Thunder leak from eXpansys, the online retailer now leaks both the 8210 and 8220, BlackBerry’s first clamshell phones.

It’s either a misunderstanding between the two companies, or an agreement to tease - and that wouldn’t surprise me.

Both the 8220 and 8210 are available in black and red, and while the 8220 supports WiFi, the 8210 supports A-GPS, as it is usual with BlackBerry phones.

Important features include Quad-band connectivity, a 2 megapixel camera with a LED flash, microSD support, 3.5mm audio jack, Bluetooth, Office applications viewer, and obviously, BlackBerry’s award-winning email service. More in-depth features after the jump.

BlackBerry Kickstart is BlackBerry Pearl 8220

Written by Meraj Chhaya on August 13, 2008 – 2:42 am

blackberry-pearl-8220-kickstart-advert-for-rogers-252x300 BlackBerry Kickstart is BlackBerry Pearl 8220The BlackBerry Kickstart won’t be called Kickstart as it was thought, it will be called the BlackBerry Pearl 8220, and not only for Rogers as it was announced, but now also for T-Mobile. The Pearl 8220’s release date will be in September, which is the predicted Q3 date range.

The Pearl 8220 has dual displays, one outside and an internal one as it is usual on clamshells, it features the SureType QWERTY keyboard which is BlackBerry’s brainchild, has a poor 2 megapixel camera, and will support the 850, 900, 1800, 1900MHz bands (it’s Quad-band), and has Bluetooth.

Furthermore, the new clamshell BlackBerry should retail at US$49.99 under the Talkspot contract, which is a voice over WiFi contract on Rogers, which means that the Pearl 8220 has WiFi as well…hmm.
