5 competitors of Apple iPhone 3G
Written by Meraj Chhaya on July 22, 2008 – 5:14 pm
If you really don’t want to get the iPhone 3G, either because you don’t like it, or you don’t want to fall into a hype, there is always hope for you. Well, there’s actually 5 hopes for you, if that’s English enough.
David LaGesse brings us the Samsung Instinct, LG Dare, HTC Touch Diamond, LG Vu, and Sony Ericsson Xperia X1. For some reason he left the Finnish giant out. Is it justified? Nokia doesn’t have any touchscreen device, but there’s always the E90 or the newbie E71.

HTC Touch Pro release date and price
Written by Meraj Chhaya on July 17, 2008 – 1:07 pm
We have come to know the pricing of the Touch Pro in UK, atleast the planned price at devicewire. Unfortunately the pricing is removed from the website, but the expected availability date remains there, which is the 1st of September.
And for the price, it was set at 468.07 British Pounds, which translates into about US$930, which frankly isn’t very good as it’s calculated excluding VAT, even though it’s a high-end smartphone.
In terms of specifications, the HTC Touch Pro is regarded as a HTC Touch Diamond with a QWERTY hardware keyboard and a flash for the camera. The Touch Diamond has a 3.2 megapixel camera, Opera 9.5 web browser, navi-wheel, touchscreen, TouchFLO 3D User Interface, 256MB of RAM (in the latest ROM), VGA resolution (640×480 pixels), HSDPA at 7.2mbps, WiFi, built-in A-GPS, and Bluetooth.

Download Opera 9.5 for Windows Mobile
Written by Meraj Chhaya on July 6, 2008 – 6:39 pm
This is great news for Windows Mobile users. I’ve had my hands-on the Opera 9.5 with an HTC Touch Diamond, during its launch in South Africa, and in my opinion, it was an incarnation of a PC web browser on a phone. Having it for other Windows Mobile phones is just excellent, although I don’t know if it will work on phones that have WM versions other than v6.1.
There are versions for phones with QVGA resolution (240×320) and VGA resolution (640×480), so there you go, a great variety of editions for a web browser that supports Flash Lite 3 and widgets.
There are still few bugs:
- Keyboard pop-ups with flash player installed.
- Video playback still slow with flash player.
- Limit paragraph cannot be turned off.
But better than the bugs are the features, such as:tabbed browsing, age overview, zooming and panning, landscape mode, ability to save web page. A video demonstrating the features is available at Opera’s website.
A list features is available after the jump. The download links, as well as operation detail is available at the thread of XDA developers forum, which is accessible from the link below.

It is quite clear that the TYTN II is the best in every single way, but it’s also the heaviest one, and depending on your country, it should be the most expensive HTC at the moment as well. The S710 doesn’t have a touchscreen unlike all it’s brothers, no GPS, no 3G, has the smallest display, and the slowest processor. The P3400 doesn’t have GPS, has a slow processor like the S710, and has Windows Mobile 5, while the rest has Windows Mobile 6.
