BlackBerry Storm pays a visit to Vodafone’s site

Written by Meraj Chhaya on September 29, 2008 – 5:54 pm

blackberry-storm-9500-9530-screenshots BlackBerry Storm pays a visit to Vodafones siteThe BlackBerry Storm 9500, a varient to the 9530 that has leaked in the US, has appeared on the Vodafone Germany website, and many screenshots of the phone have surfaced on a website dedicated to the phone as well.

The BlackBerry Storm will be RIM’s first touchscreen device, and will feature a 3.3” touchscreen with 360×480 pixels of resolution, Tri-band HSDPA, Quad-band GSM connectivity, built-in A-GPS, microSD memory card support, 3.5mm audio jack, WiFi, and will run on BlackBerry OS with 624 MHz CPU speed and 192MB of RAM to power it.

It is necessary to make an entry on the touchscreen market from all manufacturers and all market levels. Touch is said to the future of mobile, which I agree with, and more interactive interfaces are needed for phones to feel more natural to consumers, and not as technological bricks.

Samsung seems to be targetting the entry-level touchscreen market with affordable phones which implement what might be the interface of the future of mobile technology, which is touch. There isn’t much more information available, but we are quite curious on the price.

BlackBerry Curve 8900 (Javelin) in the wild

Written by Meraj Chhaya on September 25, 2008 – 7:14 pm

blackberry-javelin-curve-8900-live-hands-on-wild-300x214 BlackBerry Curve 8900 (Javelin) in the wildThree BlackBerry Javelin 8900, now named Curve 8900, have been spotted at an airport by CrackBerry author Kevin Michaluk. A French variant with an AZERTY keyboard was present between the normal QWERTY keyboards-bearing 8900.

The Curve 8900 is known as the Bold 9000’s mini version, with all the style, but only few features missing. The phone features a 512MHz processor, microSD memory card slot, a display with 480×360 pixels of resolution, and a 3.2 megapixel camera.

The Javelin should be the more-affordable version of the Bold, and it should appeal to the businessman who is used to BlackBerry phones, and wants something more comfortable, especially to use as a second phone.

Sony Ericsson’s new 5mpix camera-phone leaks

Written by Meraj Chhaya on September 25, 2008 – 4:48 pm

sony-ericsson-cybershot-5-megapixel-camera-2-300x112 Sony Ericssons new 5mpix camera-phone leaksAn unknown candybar mobile phone from Sony Ericsson, sporting the Cybershot brand, and a 5 megapixel camera with Xenon flash, has surfaced on the internet.

The device will feature HSDPA, will be slightly thicker than the C902, will not have GPS or 3G video call, will run on Sony Ericsson’s Java Platform 8.4, and have “Smile Shutter” for the camera, which recognizes a smile before it captures the image.

There is little information available for us to analyse Sony Ericsson’s upcoming device, and as the manufacturer has reputation of cancelling many phones, we aren’t even sure if it will release on the market. It is always good for a company to provide variety for the consumer, as long as the price is adequate to the features.

Nokia 5800 release date and press photo

Written by Meraj Chhaya on September 24, 2008 – 9:07 pm

nokia-5800-xpressmusic-press-image-300x193 Nokia 5800 release date and press photoJust after the release of HTC’s T-Mobile Dream G1, the first handset running Google Android operating system, an image which is reportedly the press image of the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic has been leaked. This also comes after series of leaks from RIM and Verizon Wireless of the first touchscreen BlackBerry, entitled BlackBerry Storm, which has also leaked few more details today, this time, from a slideshow.

The Nokia 5800 is the first phone running on the S60 Touch UI platform, also known as S60 fifth edition. The phone will feature a 3.2″ display with resolution close to VGA (640×360 pixels), a 3.2 megapixel camera with autofocus and dual LED flash, GPS, 3.5mm audiovisual jack, TV-out, Bluetooth 2.0, an included 8GB microSD memory card, 150MB built-in memory, HSDPA, WiFi, and will weigh 109g.

The launch date is being rumoured as the 2nd of October in London.

PhoneReport and many industry analysts are speculative whether the 5800 could pose a threat to the Apple iPhone, which is the 5800’s direct competitor. Nokia has a lead in the market and a good reputation for reliability and availability, although S60 phones haven’t had the best reputation, owing to bugs in early firmware versions. We expect the fifth edition of Nokia’s smartphone software platform to change all that and prove to be an advanced and reliable system.
