Non-touchscreen is ok for the new HTC S740
Written by Meraj Chhaya on August 27, 2008 – 3:04 am
It seems that HTC doesn’t believe in only launching touchscreen phones. After the recent success of the HTC Touch Diamond, and the probable success of the costly HTC Touch Pro, the company is coming up with the S740, a lookalike of the Touch Pro, but without a touchscreen, and with a numeric keypad on the candy-bar form.
The HTC S740 has HSDPA, GPS, a 2.4″ display with QVGA resolution (240×320 pixels), Bluetooth, WiFi, a 3.2 megapixel camera, Qualcomm® MSM7225, 528 MHz processor, 256MB RAM, and runs on Windows Mobile 6.1 Standard.
Press release after the jump.

Palm announces Treo Pro - E71, Bold competitor
Written by Meraj Chhaya on August 21, 2008 – 1:30 am
First were the leaks, but now there is official information that the Palm Treo Pro has been announced. Palm decided not to be left behind, and joined in by throwing every feature it could, but it doesn’t seem to add up in a way that competes against the current business smartphones.
The Treo Pro features Tri-band HSDPA, a 2.5″ display with QVGA resolution (320×240), 128MB RAM, 400MHz Qualcomm MSM7201 processor, WiFi b/g, Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP, runs on Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional, has a poor 2 megapixel camera, built-in GPS, and a 3.5mm jack, which we are not sure what is the use of in a business smartphone, but additional features are always welcome. What we really needed was a touchscreen and a better camera. The battery is a hefty 1500mAh and lasts up to 5hrs of talk time.
The Treo Pro isn’t exactly thin, it measures 13.4mm in thickness, and weighs 133g. Those buttons don’t look too good for typing, we’ll have to get ourselves a review unit to test them out.
The release date should be around September this year. The demo video after the jump, which you can also download and embed.

Run Moto Run with Sanjay Jha!!! (MOT:NYSE)
Written by M. Hussein on August 4, 2008 – 11:07 pm
As we know, from the news Meraj published some months ago, Motorola will split the company into two new. The new thing right now is that we are having some advances in this “spin off” which is making moving higher MOT stocks.
In the past months investors were concerned about these splitting propose, so then, the stocks went lower. Now, many of them might be seeing an opportunity for a rally of the stocks, because most of splits are preceded by a rally (not in a bear market, but that’s fine). Also, results were above expectancies.
Today, we also saw a new gap, leading the stocks trough a new high, very close to 10$ a share, while
Motorola reported that Sanjay Jha, actual Qualcomm’s former operations chief, will become co-chief executive officer with Greg Brown. Jha will run the handset unit, which accounts for 41 percent of revenue and hasn’t had a hit since the best-selling Razr, introduced in 2004. He will have a difficult job, but certainly he will be paid enough to rise revenue and profits.
The market loved the news today, and they gap higher. Tomorrow we will find if MOT can surpass the resistance at 10$.
I am attaching a chart showing my day trading with MOT today. The chart is a “1 minute” one. Nice profits overall at MOT. In fact, the money I made with MOT I lost with other trade
That’s life, that’s the market!
Here is a nice post about the big flood of searches on Google with the name “Sanjay Jha”. All of them found a Sanjay Jha….
PS: The Nokia trade remains open!

MWg Zinc II now available
Written by Meraj Chhaya on July 9, 2008 – 7:17 pm
The smartphone famous for having a Sirf Star III GPS chipset, announced back in May, is now available at shops.
The Zinc II runs on Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional, with a 500MHz Samsung processor, but only 64MB of RAM. In the connectivity area there is Quadband GSM, HSDPA, WiFi, and Bluetooth.
The Zinc II has a microSD memory card slot, and a 1530mAh battery which is now the minimum in PDA smartphones. The phone weighs 185g, which is a bit too much comparing to upcoming slim and sleek competitors such as the HTC Touch Diamond, which weighs 110g.
The new MWg is priced at US$900, and in our opinion, as well as the source’s opinion, it’s quite overpriced.
More pictures available after the jump.

Download Opera 9.5 for Windows Mobile
Written by Meraj Chhaya on July 6, 2008 – 6:39 pm
This is great news for Windows Mobile users. I’ve had my hands-on the Opera 9.5 with an HTC Touch Diamond, during its launch in South Africa, and in my opinion, it was an incarnation of a PC web browser on a phone. Having it for other Windows Mobile phones is just excellent, although I don’t know if it will work on phones that have WM versions other than v6.1.
There are versions for phones with QVGA resolution (240×320) and VGA resolution (640×480), so there you go, a great variety of editions for a web browser that supports Flash Lite 3 and widgets.
There are still few bugs:
- Keyboard pop-ups with flash player installed.
- Video playback still slow with flash player.
- Limit paragraph cannot be turned off.
But better than the bugs are the features, such as:tabbed browsing, age overview, zooming and panning, landscape mode, ability to save web page. A video demonstrating the features is available at Opera’s website.
A list features is available after the jump. The download links, as well as operation detail is available at the thread of XDA developers forum, which is accessible from the link below.
