Samsung i8510 INNOV8 review out already

Written by Meraj Chhaya on August 8, 2008 – 1:15 am

GSMArena has published a comprehensive, yet introductory review of the recently announced 8 megapixel, 16GB S60 camera-phone Samsung i8510 INNOV8. The most interesting part should be how the mobile copes in terms of data transfer, and the quality of the camera.

One of the highlights, a small but important ignored detail is the touchpad. It seems that the new addition to Samsung phones works just like a notebook touchpad, but only for the web browser, which I will be happy with.

Other details are the 2.8″ display, although with a poor resolution, a 3.5mm audio jack, a TV-out, and plenty of shortcuts, which complete the mobile phone and place it at the world’s best spot. The only thing missing, I say, is the touchscreen, and a better resolution.

Nokia E71 South African launch event coverage

Written by Meraj Chhaya on August 4, 2008 – 3:01 am

Last week Wednesday Nokia unveiled both the E66 and E71, the new additions to the ESeries business phones portfolio, which incorporates quite interesting and attractive phones such as the E61i and E65. The latter device is the one which comes the closest to a non-business phone in terms of looks, but with the new additions, it’s all about to change.

The E71 is standing in the line which separates business phones to entertainment devices. It’s such a beautifully crafted phone that it suits any kind of person. Even if you are not a businessman and want to use a full QWERTY for “IMing” and texting you would go for the E71. Nokia has got it all right this time.

Samsung INNOV8 i8510 hands-on

Written by Meraj Chhaya on August 4, 2008 – 2:31 am

The first 8 megapixel camera-phone from Samsung was handled at the New York launch by Mobile Burn’s Ricky Cadden. Unfortunately we don’t have any opinions or reviews for the phone yet, but they should be coming very soon.

Samsung’s offices in South Africa already have the device, but it’s at a very early software stage. I will go visit them one of these days and take comparison pictures for your enjoyment.

It’s not only Samsung’s first 8 megapixel camera-phone, but it’s also the first Symbian and first S60 UI powered device to have such a camera sensor. The other highlights are the 16GB internal memory and built-in GPS. There is a 3.5mm jack, Bluetooth, WLAN, video recording at VGA resolution at 30fps.

More pictures available after the jump.

Nokia Batman phone is the 5800 half finished

Written by Meraj Chhaya on August 3, 2008 – 1:01 am

I just watched “Batman: The Dark Knight” movie at the cinema. I was looking forward to see the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic handled by a character, as rumoured. Morgan Freeman showed it twice, but it was very quick and not exactly easy to notice everything. I could however see the frontal design, and I compared the 5800 to it. It’s the 5800, definitely. The only difference from the “Tube” is the keys, where the 5800 has three keys: end call (red), selection key, answer call (green); Morgan Freeman’s phone only two of the keys: end call (red), answer call (green). The middle was empty, but all keys exactly positioned as on the 5800. Thanks for teasing us Nokia…

So it is the incomplete Tube phone. Another detail was the outline: If you saw the phone in the movie and saw the phone in leaked pictures, you can notice an outline line on the front. This almost confirms that the Tube was shown on the Dark Knight movie. Quite a lot of bloggers confirmed this already, so I’m just adding my inputs. The Nokia representative at the ESeries launch didn’t seem very convinced when I recalled the 5800 being showcased in the movie. Either he doesn’t know about this, or it isn’t the 5800. In my opinion, it’s the 5800 with a missing key, everything else is there.

One of the functionalities of the phone at a point in the movie was to cut the electricity of a building, which is not likely to be included in the production model

I leave you with more leaked pictures after the jump, and some sneaks at the User Interface as well, courtesy of Digi QQ via The Nokia Blog. The picture above was retrieved from Symbian Freak, and some of the other pictures that you will see below are from Talk About NSeries.
