The HTC MAX 4G has been announced as the first mobile phone with GSM/WiMAX compatibility, for now it will be released in Russia with WIMAX Carrier ''Yota''. The HTC MAX 4G will also support GSM networks from any other GSM carrier. Basically you will have two carriers, a GSM and a WIMAX carrier, calls between two WiMAX devices will be automatically redirected to VOIP instead of GSM.

WiMAX is used in South Africa for cities that are not covered by ADSL. It isn't used as an actual internet connection method, only as an alternative. It's interesting that is considered 4G, when the actual 4G network is supposedly going to be commercially available in very developed countries in 2010+.. Nevertheless, the HTC MAX will be useful for the Russian who can actually make use of such technology.
