STOCKHOLM, Sweden and LONDON, UK - The Carphone Warehouse has suspended the sales of Sony Ericsson's iconic Satio, which was revealed as the first 12 megapixel camera phone in the market. Software problems contributed to its withdrawal.
Revealed at the Mobile World Congress 2009 in Barcelona, first as the Idou, and then renamed to Satio, the smartphone runs on the Symbian operating system, and it has high-end features such as a 3.5" touchscreen display, HSPA connectivity, Wi-Fi, A-GPS, and is powered by an ARM Cortex A8 600MHz processor.
The device also has 256MB of RAM, support for microSD memory cards, Bluetooth, and a 1000mAh battery.
The on-board camera has the touch focus feature, as well as geo-tagging, face and smile detection, a Xenon and LED flash, and support for video recording.
The retailer of the device stated that "from time to time we experience issues with new handsets, and their software, which may result in a customer experience that is below our usually high standards. We want customers to have complete confidence and satisfaction in the handsets they buy from us, which is why we have temporarily withdrawn the Sony Ericsson Satio from sale". The Carphone Warehouse expects to have the smartphone back in store in time for Christmas sales.
