Carmack, id Software's co-Founder praised Apple's iPhone when speaking at QuakeCon 2008 in Dallas. Carmack describe the iPhone as a phone which offers a "rare opportunity for game publishers to deliver graphics rich titles supported by detailed textual descriptions on the App Store". Furthermore he also praised the iPhone SDK as very intuitive. He went to the point of comparing the iPhone's hardware to that of the Sega Dreamcast, Sony PlayStation 2, and even XBox. For the last bit, he stated that the iPhone is "more powerful than a Nintendo DS and PSP combined".
Carmack disclosed that the revenue sharing between Apple and the developers is above 70% per sale for the developer. As a last statement, he doesn't believe that the iPhone can be marketed as a gaming machine, but will led people to play games on their phones more than ever before.
