BASKING RIDGE, USA - The brand new addition to the Verizon Droid line, the high-end Motorola Droid X, is now available at Verizon Wireless stores throughout the country, and it packs a 16GB memory card in the box.
The handset had been leaked quite a few times as the Motorola Shadow in the past, to be released as the Droid 2, but that information was corrected when Verizon officially announced the smartphone.
The Verizon Droid line is quite a profitable series of Google Android smartphones marketed by US carrier Verizon Wireless. It contains handsets from both Motorola and HTC, and it was the key for the Schaumburg manufacturer to get back into the game.
The now-released device comes as a rival to the Apple iPhone 4 from AT&T, and to the HTC Evo 4G from Sprint. Both phones have encountered problems in the market: for the iPhone 4 it's hardware issues, with many analysts fearing a possible recall, while for Sprint it's actually a shortage of stock which could decrease the outlook of its 4G network's growth.
The Motorola Droid X is a smartphone built for the high-end enthusiast, featuring a 4.3" touchscreen display, an 8 megapixel camera, HD video recording capability, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, all powered by a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. 8GB memory is available in the phone itself, while Verizon has decided to pack in a 16GB memory card, obviously to rival the iPhone's 32GB of internal memory.
The device retails for US$199.99 at the network in a two-year contract, and customers will have to subscribe to a voice plan (beginning at US$39.99 monthly access) and an Email and Web for Smartphone plan (beginning at $29.99 for unlimited monthly access).
