Nokia 5800 Navigation Edition USA (2)NEW YORK, USA - To revive its touchscreen phone announced more than a year ago, Nokia had announced a GPS navigation version of the 5800. The smartphone is now selling in the US with a lifetime navigation licence for Ovi Maps, and with a car kit included in the sales package.

Ovi Maps is Nokia's proprietary GPS navigation app with free downloadable maps for 180 countries. It offers turn-by-turn navigation for both cars and pedestrians, voice guidance in many languages, real-time traffic information, and can render 3D buildings. The latest version includes speed limit warnings and speed camera alerts.

The device runs on the S60 platform enhanced for touchscreens. The latest version of the software includes kinetic scrolling, web synchronisation with the Ovi service, and many more apps are offered at the Ovi Store.

The phone's features have not changed for the past year: it features a 3.2 megapixel camera with autofocus and LED flash, a 3.2" touchscreen with 360x640 pixels in resolution, HSDPA connectivity, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, a 3.5mm audio jack, and obviously, A-GPS.

The Nokia 5800 Navigation Edition is available in the United States for US$299 at authorized retailers. Consumers who buy it before the end of the year and activate their Ovi Store will receive a US$50 Visa gift card.
