Laurie Sullivan from MarketingDaily reports that Nokia's movie with Spike Lee will release on the 21st of August, which is earlier than the official release date for Fall 2008.
The premier will take place at the Nokia Theatre L.A. Live plaza in Los Angeles.
Although the participants are asked to capture images and videos via their mobile phones, this isn't compulsory, as according to the FAQ at the Nokia Productions website:
A. While we encourage you to use your mobile device, you don’t necessarily have to.
Nokia chooses the top 25 submissions from each act, the visitors vote for the top 10, and the director Spike Lee picks the winner from each to integrate in the full movie.
Nokia will select five random participants and give away a Nokia N95, and offer them the chance to meet the director at the premiere.
Nicki Purcell, senior digital marketing manager of Nokia, said that the project aims to connect humanity through text, music and visuals, and that it highlights moviemaking features to help consumers reap the benefits that Nokia phones offer.

As one of the Assistant Directors working for Nokia Productions, I assure you that the film is not yet ready and won’t be released until October, at the premier in LA at the Nokia Theatre.
Nokia Productions will be participating at L.A. Live later in August (I will be there too), which is not the premier.
