At Nokia World 2008 in Barcelona, Ukko Lappalainen, Vice President, Nokia's markets unit, was caught stating that Linux will become the platform of choice for the manufacturer's high-end devices.
The Maemo distribution of Linux is currently used in Nokia Internet Tablets, and the company has spent a hefty sum of money in order to transform the Symbian operating system, the platform of choice to its high-end phones, into an Open Source platform.
It is unlikely that Lappalainen was referring to S40 devices, but it could perhaps mean that Symbian Foundation will use resources from Linux.
