JOHANNESBURG, South Africa - With the advance of technology, manufacturers are now able to include more features into mobile phones. Sony Ericsson is one of these manufacturers who has made the W995 Walkman, a music phone, a lot more than just that.
The Walkman phone-series' reputation in the music phone department keeps it isolated from smartphones, but conserves its large appeal to the market. Every improvement, software and hardware-wise, is taken as a major feature in the music-phone market.
The W995 does have a component which is not common, and likely not to become common in next few months in the music phone segment of the market: a high-resolution camera. In this case, the handset features an 8 megapixel camera with autofocus, LED flash and video recording.
The phone is also at the very top-end of its series – no other Walkman phone has the combination of features present in this handset.
Besides not being able to offer a similar music experience, competitors to Sony Ericsson's Walkman series cannot match the wide offer of features in this handset, placing the W995 at the very top of music phone industry. The only problem is the ever-emerging smartphone market which is now offering handsets much more appealing than feature-phones, partly thanks to the improvement in touchscreen user interfaces.

The Sony Ericsson W995 Walkman offers, besides the abovementioned 8 megapixel camera, a 2.6” non-touchscreen display with 240x320 pixels of resolution, HSPA connectivity, Wi-Fi with DLNA support, Bluetooth, m2 memory card support, A-GPS with Wayfinder Navigator licensed, FM radio with RDS, a kickstand, and motion sensor interaction with the music player. Internal memory is limited to 118MB, although a 8GB m2 memory card comes out-of-the-box.
