Samsung's head of product strategy, Won-Pyo Hong, told Reuters that one LiMo-based handset will "definitely" be launched this year, as well as three Google Android-based smartphones.

"By the end of the year, we will be on both markets," said Hong, reffering to the American and European cellular phone markets.

The South-Korean giant is a member of both the Open Handset Alliance, which supports Google Android; and of the LiMo Foundation.

The cell phone manufacturer is also part of the Symbian Foundation, another open-source organization, which is committed to bring Symbian code for free to everyone. Samsung already uses the Symbian OS platform on its devices, running on the S60 user interface, such as in the latest Omnia HD.
