Sony Ericsson Xperia X10DALLAS, USA - Sony Ericsson's flagship smartphone Xperia X10 is assumed to be launching in US by AT&T. The latest specifications published suggest compatibility with AT&T's network, but not with T-Mobile's one.

The X10 is the first smartphone from the Swedish-Japanese joint venture to run on the Google Android operating system. This software platform has been responsible for much of the hype in the market, and may just be the catalyst that Sony Ericsson needs to jump into profits.

The official specification page for the X10 states "UMTS HSPA 800/850/1900 only available for phones sold in Americas (except Brazil) and Australia. UMTS HSPA 900/1700 not available for phones sold in Americas. UMTS HSPA 1900/2100 available worldwide". The 1700MHz UMTS band is T-Mobile's frequency of choice for 3G devices, and its absence suggests that the X10 will be exclusively retailed by AT&T.

The device will come preloaded with the Wisepilot GPS navigation app, although Google is now also providing its Google Navigation app on Android 1.6 and higher.

Signature applications on the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 are TimeScape, which syncs all multimedia content such as Facebook, Twitter, photos, email and SMS with the related contact; and MediaScape, which integrates media content on the phone and the web.

The smartphone will run on a 1GHz Snapdragon CPU, it will have a 4" capacitive touchscreen, an 8.1 megapixel camera with autofocus, flash, and video recording; Wi-Fi, A-GPS, a 3.5mm audio jack, microUSB connectivity, Bluetooth and microSD memory card support for memory expansion, making it one of the best in the market.

The device will be available in two colours: Sensuous Black and Luster White, and will start shipping in the first quarter of 2010.
