ESPOO, Finland - PhoneReport's sources in Nokia and Carl Zeiss have revealed that the Finnish giant will rival its competitors with 12 megapixel camera-phones and possibly, with devices featuring optical zoom for their cameras.
The sources insisted that next year Nokia will surprise the market with its offerings. The devices containing the 12 megapixel cameras and optical zoom could be revealed either at the end of this year, or at the beginning of 2010. Considering the dates, it is unlikely that a Nokia N98 - the future Nokia flagship - would be announced at the Nokia World 2009 (2-3 September), but rather at the Mobile World Congress 2010 in February.
Nokia will most probably not launch N93-like devices, which transform itself in several shapes, which in turn, pay a toll in weight and aesthetics; but it will certainly launch a phone for the Nokia smartphone-enthusiast, according to our sources.
In a related aspect, a Carl Zeiss representative explained to PhoneReport during our visit to the Carl Zeiss factory in Stuttgart, the reason behind the delay in launching the Nokia N86 8MP: Nokia's competitors, in order to increase the megapixel count in their camera-phones, reduce the pixel size on the sensors, which compromises the quality of image (by introducing noise, etc.); while Carl Zeiss has tested a new technology for Nokia so as to not reduce the pixel size for the 8 megapixel camera sensor on the N86, which will ensure that the quality is optimal.
The Nokia roadmap leaked November 2008 does not detail any device that is to be announced post-March 2009, hence we are not able to describe to devices to-be launched.

If that’s true… then this could be the successor to the N82!
Nice article, I wonder if nokia’s timing and device is going to hit home this time? Lets hope so.
I had a source that said the N93 successor was coming at the end of 2010. A reliable one.
In between Nokia World 2009 (2-3 September) and Mobile World Congress 2010 in February,
there is this year ITU’s Telecom World in early October in Geneva.
It is able to do HD Video Recording / Playback ???
The only way not increase pixel count and not reduce pixels size is by making the sensor bigger. There is no way around it. So, either Nokia is planning bigger sensors (a welcomed step) or it is just a load of BS from the marketing department.
I suggest that people is want to have a higher mega pixel products.. can you make more than 20 mega pixel by the year of 2012? It is just only my suggestion because higher mega pixels much better. thank you.
