Successor to Popular LG Cookie Announced

LG Cookie PlusSEOUL, South Korea - LG Electronics has announced the availability of the successor to its tremendously possible handset, LG Cookie. The LG GS500 Cookie Plus is a 3G touchscreen feature-phone that is the spiritual successor to the original Cookie.

The handset sports a new graphical user interface that has a focus around social network connectivity. A Facebook widget is on the home screen, while Twitter, Flickr, and others are also available.

The Cookie Plus offers a unique "editable screenshot" MMS feature that lets the user take screenshots of websites to edit and mail to friends. For images, the Cookie Plus comes equipped with a 3 megapixel camera.

LG says that additional Cookie models will be revealed in the coming months. The phone will be available initially in France and Italy in March but will eventually be available in 45 countries. Pricing details are yet to be announced.

The original Cookie KP500 has been an extremely successful model. It recorded over two million unit sales worldwide in the five months since its launch in December 2008. It has sold 1.2 million units in Europe, 600 000 units in Asia and emerging markets, and 100 000 in Korea, which LG claims, as of March 2009, it is the most popular handset in its home country.
