N95 expresses the beauty within
Written by Meraj Chhaya on March 9, 2008 – 7:23 pm
You will see pictures in the night, with extreme light, during dawn or sunrise, during daylight, in different angles, with water, in sunset, and big landscapes. Obviously I'm not a big photographer, but you can get a perspective of what wonders an average Joe can achieve with a camera always in his pocket. I resized all pictures so that they fit to my bandwidth limit, but you can clearly see how powerful the Nokia N95 is. The only thing missing here for me is the capture timing, I can't ever capture still waves, and I hope this feature is added in next phones.
Nokia's upcoming flagship phone, the Nokia N96 won't have as many picture features as it will be focused on video recording, but when the time is right, don't forget to share your views on it at Nokia N96 Blog and especially at the forum. For this picture, the right thread to kindly post your views, is this one.
First three pictures are captured in a club, where there is a swimming pool, a lot of lights, and reflex, you can also see the contrast of people, and how the lights affect the camera:
If you are wondering, these pictures were taken at H20 in Johannesburg, South Africa, where Paul van Dyk played his best tunes for 3 hours.
And now a simple picture that I took while the sun was rising and the clouds were expressing their colours:
The colours could have been brighter on the some clouds on the right of the image, but it seems that the main area is the center. The resolution of the camera gave the image possibility to mix diverse colours so that the clouds could have a strong texture.
Two different pictures that show you the focus on grass, sand, and even texture of the water, in the same scenario with a Jeep, which is the main object in the picture:

Nokia 6210 Navigator: The real Navigator
Written by Meraj Chhaya on February 18, 2008 – 3:50 pm

Nokia managed to cram all the features a good GPS device should have onto a phone, but might have missed few details.
I will go straight to the disadvantages: The battery, BL-5F 3.7V 950 mAh, isn't enough for a good GPS device, unless Nokia managed to tweak their software so that the GPS doesn't suck up much power. On phones like N95, even on the latest firmware, the GPS can make a fully charged battery go to empty in few hours.
The Orientation features are smartly included in the phone, with a compass and an accelerometer if you plan to use the GPS while walking. According to Nokia, you can combine with an 'accelerometer' which measures changes in direction and orientation, and the built-in compass makes it easy to follow the map when strolling about on foot. When turning the device, the map automatically maintains its orientation.
Nokia didn't seem to include a TV-out functionality for the Navigator, most people like me might like to connect the device to a 7" car display instead of focusing on a 2.4" display with QVGA resolution.
Besides these little bad points, I was very happy with the device. There seems to be a GPS key on the top plaform of the slider, which is extremely useful for people who mainly use the phone for this features, or even for sports such as Geocaching.
"The personal navigation market is expanding rapidly and mobile phone navigation is its fastest growing area. According to recent market research by Canalys, over 60% of mobile phone users are keen to have navigation on their phones," says Markku Suomi, the head of Nokia's Connect device category. "The Nokia 6210 Navigator offers the next generation in mobile navigation to a broad consumer base. Mobile phone users around the world will be able to enjoy the benefits of navigation with a device that not only navigates, but also communicates."
A-GPS is included, and for this and for other data needs, there is Dual band HSDPA and Quad band EDGE.
The camera has 3.2 megapixels or resolution, and video recording at 640x480 (VGA) is possible at 15fps.
On the connectivity side, there is no WiFi but there is Bluetooth v2.0 with A2DP support.
The phone is powered by the latest Symbian OS9.3 with S60 3rd edition, Feature Pack 2, and on the hardware side, there is a Single ARM11 with 369MHz and 64MB of RAM, of which only 20MB is available to the user.

ShakeLock by Manu Krishnan, shake phone to un/lock it!
Written by Meraj Chhaya on February 2, 2008 – 12:54 pm
There is no end to imagination or to the possibilities of N95's accelerometer.
A first-time Symbian programmer, Manu Krishnan has developed a simple application that interacts with the Accelerometer API and the lock and unlock commands of the Symbian smartphones that have accelerometers. This application is another addition to the vast list of which people like Samir, Damien and Tong Ren have contributted.
It is really simple to operate this program, where up and down shakes equal to lock and right and left equal to unlock the phone's keypad.
The application is in progress and therefore it's not released to the public, however Teo from Symbian-Freak is a friend of Manu, so he might do the favour to some people.

ShakeSMS, ShakeMe and LoudUp?
Written by Meraj Chhaya on January 31, 2008 – 2:03 pmThis is a race or a war if you will between two great developers, one of them is Tong Ren, which has come up with Flip Silent, and now we see ShakeSMS, which seems like quite a good concept, because I rather do a simple movement with my hand to check SMS rather then actually unlocking or sliding the phone up.
On Samir's side we have seen RotateMe, Nokmote, Shutup (a bit late with reduced functionality compared to FlipSilent), and now we wonder what LoudMe and ShakeMe is.
According to p@sco from jaspp.net, LoudMe will allow you to answer a call in loudspeaker mode, which can be useful if you are in a car, like Bery from Symbian Web Blog said, or if you just want to show off with your friends!

Now about ShakeMe we are a bit sceptical, as it could be the same function that Sony Ericsson phones have on the music section, such as the W910i Shake, which shakes and shuffles all songs, or changes tracks when you do a determined movement. It could also be an SMS viewing application, exactly like ShakeSMS, or it could even be to answer calls, there is unlimited possiblities.

Moderator of A2Jsoft forum???
Written by Meraj Chhaya on January 30, 2008 – 3:28 pmToday I was doing my usual browsing through the numerous forums and blogs that I know of, and suddenly I notice something that was a bit weird...While browsing through Asier's forum, A2J, I saw that I was added to the moderator list (well there's only four of us), and I didn't even receive a PM about it, or even requested/applied for it. I don't know if it's a mistake or Asier felt generous towards my work there, which is quite minimal.

Whichever way you take it, I'm always here to help people when it concerns to mobile phones and computers, and it's truly great that people actually give you credit.
If you are still clueless of who Asier is, he developed NiiMe, that one program which is competition for our mouses and touchpads ![]()
You can download NiiMe here, at A2Jsoft website.
