Nokia Batman phone is the 5800 half finished
Written by Meraj Chhaya on August 3, 2008 – 1:01 am
I just watched “Batman: The Dark Knight” movie at the cinema. I was looking forward to see the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic handled by a character, as rumoured. Morgan Freeman showed it twice, but it was very quick and not exactly easy to notice everything. I could however see the frontal design, and I compared the 5800 to it. It’s the 5800, definitely. The only difference from the “Tube” is the keys, where the 5800 has three keys: end call (red), selection key, answer call (green); Morgan Freeman’s phone only two of the keys: end call (red), answer call (green). The middle was empty, but all keys exactly positioned as on the 5800. Thanks for teasing us Nokia…
So it is the incomplete Tube phone. Another detail was the outline: If you saw the phone in the movie and saw the phone in leaked pictures, you can notice an outline line on the front. This almost confirms that the Tube was shown on the Dark Knight movie. Quite a lot of bloggers confirmed this already, so I’m just adding my inputs. The Nokia representative at the ESeries launch didn’t seem very convinced when I recalled the 5800 being showcased in the movie. Either he doesn’t know about this, or it isn’t the 5800. In my opinion, it’s the 5800 with a missing key, everything else is there.
One of the functionalities of the phone at a point in the movie was to cut the electricity of a building, which is not likely to be included in the production model
I leave you with more leaked pictures after the jump, and some sneaks at the User Interface as well, courtesy of Digi QQ via The Nokia Blog. The picture above was retrieved from Symbian Freak, and some of the other pictures that you will see below are from Talk About NSeries.
