Google wants Verizon out

redcard Google wants Verizon out

Seems like Google really wants those 700MHz it didn’t get. Google claims that FCC should drop Verizon’s right of bid as they will use it against the strict open access rules that FCC set.

According to the report, Verizon will force customers to either use devices that are bought from them on the 700MHz, while devices from other networks will not work on this 700MHz spectrum, that if I understand it correctly.

“Verizon believes it may force customers who want to access the open platform using a device not purchased from Verizon to go through ‘Door No. 1,’ while allowing customers who obtain their device from Verizon access through ‘Door No. 2.,’” Google writes. “[The] position would completely reverse the meaning of the rule such that the open access condition would apply to none of Verizon’s customers.”

Who won FCC 700MHz spectrum bid?

Written by Meraj Chhaya on March 21, 2008 – 7:23 pm

The clear winner out of this monster auction was obviously FCC itself, scoring more than $19.8 Billion from frequency-hungry-bidders.

The bid that everyone was waiting Google to win was actually won by Verizon Wireless, who bid $4,74 Billion, against Google’s $4,71 Billion. The reason everyone was making a fuss is Google’s uprising in the mobile phone industry with the launch of Google Android, the possession of the 700MHz spectrum could enable Google to create their own network which would give more possibilities to their upcoming Operating System.

More than 1000 licences were auctioned, including regional ones from $17 000 to a billion dollars.

The 700MHz was previously used for analog television broadcasting, but as digital television is taking over, this spectrum is no longer needed.

The other major winner was AT&T, gaining access to 227 regional licences. We can expect many more products and services from the winners, and some of the newbies as well. Improvements on internet and other data usage is a must, and cheaper voice calls might also be in the basket.

Nokia and Google - The partnership is confirmed

mobilephoneheartloveml8 Nokia and Google - The partnership is confirmed

This shouldn’t be a big deal, we have seen Live Search from Windows Live, which is obviously owned by Microsoft, so now we wonder why did Nokia change from Microsoft to Google?

We had seen the change in the N800 Internet Tablet, but the change was yet to come to Nokias, many Samsung’s incorporated Google Search and made publicity with it, and as Google owns 75% of the search engine market share, Nokia thought that this would be a good marketing move, not bad Nokia…

"Providing choices for our consumers is an important driver in Nokia’s Internet service strategy," said Ilkka Raiskinen, vice-president, software and services at Nokia. "This integration allows our consumers the ability to use the innovative search technologies, which have made Google almost synonymous with Internet search.

"Adding Google to Nokia Search provides mobile users with fast, relevant and comprehensive search experience that will be familiar to the people who use Google to search the web from their desktop," said Google’s VP of Engineering and Products for Mobile Vic Gundotra. "Google search combined with the high quality applications on Nokia devices help make information available to Nokia device users wherever they are and provide an excellent overall experience."
