Samsung goes green with Eco phone W510
Written by Meraj Chhaya on July 6, 2008 – 9:45 pm
Samsung has announced the W510, a phone of which its housing is constructed from bioplastic that is derived from corn. The phone has not used lead, mercury, or cadmium, BFR or PCB materials.
The phone itself has a 3 megapixel camera, Bluetooth connectivity, HSDPA at 7.2mbps, DMB receiver, and should cost around US$480.
DMB is a mobile TV standard, just like DVB-h, but it’s mainly used in South Korea
It’s good to know that it’s not only Nokia and Sony Ericsson that are attempting to go greener, but Samsung is playing their part as well. More than that, it is visible that using environmentally-friendly materials does not compromise a phone’s features.
A second image demonstrating the device’s black colour, and the green W510 with its slider open, is available after the jump.

Samsung W510, F268 to save the world
Written by Meraj Chhaya on June 18, 2008 – 8:20 pm
Both of the above phones are simply to campaign against polluting materials. The W510 has a battery cover made out of cornstarch, an environmentally-friendly metal finishing process and a anti-bacterial material. The F268 has a 2 megapixel camera, no 3G, but one of the highlights is the lack of brominated flame retardants (BFR) and polyvinyl chloride (PVC) use.
“Samsung is striving to continue to be a strong corporate citizen that contributes to environmental sustainability,” said Geesung Choi, President of Samsung’s Telecommunication Business. “Now we are trying not only to launch more environmentally-conscious products with more renewable material and less energy consuming, but also to expand and proactively set up a phone recycling system”.
