The long-rumoured Sony Ericsson smartphone might be here sooner than expected. After a photoshop image trying to sketch the phone, now we can see something maybe more real, or maybe it’s another photoshopped image.

According to rumours, the P5i might incorporate:

  • Slider keyboard
  • Symbian/UIQ 3.3 interface
  • Stylus and finger operated touchscreen
  • 5 megapixel camera
  • Built-in GPS
  • Opera Mobile 9 browser

Sony Ericsson keeps on changing between Windows Mobile and Symbian, but they keeping the P-series loyal to Symbian, while the upcoming Xperia X1 will feature Windows Mobile 6.1

This is what the analysts from ABI projects predict, from the current 10% share in the mobile phone industry, smartphones will occupy a hefty 31% in the market.

Smartphones have been a synonym for convergence, and manufacturers use them as their flagship phones in order to show-off their latest innovations in technology. The three top smartphone Operating System suppliers are Symbian, Windows Mobile, and RIM.

ABI Research vice president Stuart Carlaw comments, "Smart operating systems are continually being optimized to run on processors with lower performance. There is a strategic move to support smart OSes in single chip midrange devices in order to unlock more data revenues." Carlaw adds that, "The market is currently dominated by Nokia (52%) and Symbian (65%). However, the coalescence of the framework wars in the Linux environment and the growing stature of Windows Mobile will enable new competitors to put pressure on this established axis."

In the future, we can expect Google Android and Apple Mac OS X for the iPhone to turn the figures in their favour, bringing mobile experiences close to computer replacement.

Nokia N96 release date

Written by Meraj Chhaya on February 18, 2008 – 12:03 am

n96preorder2wd2 Nokia N96 release date

My friend Devin Ballentina has posted what he thinks is the release date for the Nokia N96 smartphone. He believes that the date marketed over Mobile City, 7th May, is the realistic one.

The truth is that Nokia doesn’t have to hide it anymore, as the product is official. Unfortunately there is no official price tag or network deals on it, or even leaks on networks for that matter. The price on the website seems to be a bit higher than the one given to the Nokia N95 on it’s release, currently it’s set to $799, and that’s with a $100 discount.

The only price we have from Nokia is without taxes or subsidies, which is $550, relatively cheap compared to the one at Mobile City, but this price is only set for a release in Q3, which is quite late if Nokia wants to throw out the competition.

Samsung smartphone with 5mpx and Windows Mobile 6.1

Written by Meraj Chhaya on January 28, 2008 – 2:21 pm

This seems like a direct hit to Nokia N95 8GB, as in one perspective, it does outline it.

With 7.2 Mbps HSDPA connectivity, Windows Mobile 6.1 OS, 3.5″ 240×400 px touchscreen, 5 megapixel camera, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.0 EDR, integrated GPS and FM Radio, TV out, 8GB of Flash memory, 1500 mAh Li-Ion battery, it definitely leaves the competition behind.

Little details like video capture quality, accelerometer implementatio, 3.5mm port are still not confirmed, but Samsung will announce it in Barcelona, for 3GSM.

It will only be available officially in September this year, which is quite disappointing, as the competition will have come up with something better.

Bellow is only a photoshop of the actual beauty, you can catch the real picture after the jump.
