PhoneReport on a little field trip

Written by Meraj Chhaya on April 30, 2008 – 11:55 pm

That’s right, from tonight I will be travelling to the Kruger National Park, to the Limpopo Transfrontier Park, and then to Maputo.

Of course, this is only to test the potentials of the N81 8GB Special Edition and the Nokia N82. I’m not going on holidays or anything.

I will hook up the N82 to my headrest monitor and as the headrest unit has a FM transmitter, I will hook up the cables to it, and select the frequency in the car. I do know the directions, but let me see if the GPS application knows it as well. Bedfordview to Crocodile Bridge Gate…it’s going to be few hours and I don’t think that the phone will survive, therefore I will switch off 3G and switch off the backlight, as I will be looking at my 7″ monitor.

The N81 8GB will only be tested soundwise, as I have tested everything else…and of course some NGage as well.

To add up, nothing better than a comparison between the N82’s camera and the N95’s. I will geotag every image, and track my route with Nokia Sports Tracker.

In most areas I won’t have internet coverage so I will rely on the available and scarce, most probably none, hotspots.

To keep the blog updated, I’ll take my tablet PC along, although I will have difficulty in find hotspots in Maputo, nevermind in the national parks.

It’s three days, lots of fun, and lots of testing as well.

Keep track of my trip by subscribing to our RSS or via email!

Apple iPhone vs Nokia N93 camera comparison

Written by Meraj Chhaya on April 16, 2008 – 9:15 pm

00 Apple iPhone vs Nokia N93 camera comparison

This is one interesting test. I never lay my hands on an iPhone yet, in South Africa they aren’t sold, but I do hate the useless hype that went on about it, not even the N95 had so much “excitement”, of course in the Symbian communities there was a lot of expectation, which was fulfilled.

Well one of my friends was bragging as two or three of his friends do have the iPhone, and that the camera quality is awesome, because of this and that. I was pretty convinced that it was simply because the viewfinder is much bigger than any usual phone. He even said that the photo quality is better than the N73’s, which I simply could not believe.

Thankfully, Mazor from Symbian-Freak forums has put the Apple iPhone to the test against the Nokia N93, which we know is a legendary camera phone.

So, head over to SF, and enjoy the article!

Nokia 8800 Arte review

[Review conducted on behalf of MyADSL]

Since the introduction of mobile phones, manufacturers have strived to include more features to make the devices more powerful. USB data transfer test: N95 8GB vs 8800 Arte

Written by Meraj Chhaya on April 12, 2008 – 4:33 pm

10042008276 USB data transfer test: N95 8GB vs 8800 Arte

Well I could have named this test S60 vs S40, or NSeries vs Extreme-luxury phone, but I think that both phones have different qualities, and therefore the results will be different.

The N95 8GB uses a miniUSB connector to USB, and obviously has a 8GB flash memory, and no memory card slot. The 8800 Arte uses a microUSB connector to USB, and this port is also used for charging. The phone has 1GB flash memory and no memory card slot.
