flashlite111rn4 Flash Lite powers Half a Billion phones

Adobe announced yesterday that its Flash Lite software was now included in more than 500 million mobile phones across the globe.

The software that powers many such as YouTube and many other special animations and transitions is derived from Flash on computer web browsers, as well as offline applications.

Microsoft has also announced that it will use Flash Lite on its Windows Mobile Operating System, a step needed in order to keep competing against upcoming platforms that possess Touch UI or any flash interface like the one we see in Apple iPhones.

With over half a billion devices now running Flash Lite were extending the reach of high impact web experiences to our connected mobile world, said Al Ramadan, senior vice president, Mobile and Devices at Adobe. With Microsoft, the latest addition to our list of mobile partners, Flash technologys footprint continues to expand, promising more opportunities for Flash developers and more great content for mobile consumers around the world.

T-Mobile MDA Compact IV overtakes HTC in the power market

Written by Meraj Chhaya on March 4, 2008 – 4:00 pm

tmobilemdacompactivtheuyk3 T-Mobile MDA Compact IV overtakes HTC in the power market

T-Mobile showed off their exclusively locked MDA Compact IV, who joins the ever lasting struggle of Windows Mobile against Symbian. Rumours are flying that the device might be rewarded with Windows Mobile 6.1, but what’s confirmed for now is that the device is a Windows Mobile 6.0, and that too sourced by HTC.

What I like so much about this phone is the VGA resolution that is missing from my favourites Symbian S60 devices. To complete the phone there’s a lightning fast 7.2mbps HSDPA, Quad-band EDGE, built-in GPS, and of course, WiFi.

More details to come during the event.

Asus says Vrrroom with Lamborghini Phone

Written by Meraj Chhaya on February 26, 2008 – 3:38 pm

Asus phones aren’t very famous and you rarely see them, there are only 21 of them, and most are dedicated to office work. Regardless of all that, the rumoured Asus ZX1 might make its ways closer to the shelves than we think.

The ZX1 will feature HSDPA, GPS, WiFi, Bluetooth, and to power all that, a Qualcomm’s 520 MHz CPU  bundled with a Windows Mobile 6 Professional Edition, although that might be a Windows mobile 6.1 when the phone is released.

There are no imaging features leaked, and Asus doesn’t have any good history on cameraphones, so you can expect nothing more than a 3.2 megapixel camera with autofocus.

The form factor is unpredictable, but sliders and candybars are in right now, Asus has tried sliders, clamshells and even candybars.

i-mate Ultimate 6150 ugly but powerful

Written by Meraj Chhaya on February 17, 2008 – 3:15 pm

imateult615000zz4 i-mate Ultimate 6150 ugly but powerful

I really think that is an ugly phone, and the worst thing about it, it’s really a bulky slider.

In specifications terms, the i-mate is similar to all phones released on Mobile World Congress, this is the last one in their line-up, after this I will move onto two Nokias that I didn’t report yet on.

The display is a massive 2.8" with VGA resolution, and it’s a touchscreen with handwriting recognition, although there is a numeric keypad beneath the slide.

Connectivity is never a disadvantage in i-mates, there is HSDPA tri-band, EDGE on Quad-band, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/e/i, this device has e and i standards just like the Ultimate 8150. There is also Bluetooth v2.0 with A2DP support.

The phone is powered by Intel Bulverde 520 MHz processor, and has 128MB of RAM. To support this, Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.0 Professional was used, but I’m wondering why the latest version, 6.1 wasn’t used in any of the released i-mates.

There is a 2 megapixel camera, a secondary VGA camera for video calls, and a TV-out which should be in VGA resolution.

i-mate Ultimate 8150 shows its power

Written by Meraj Chhaya on February 17, 2008 – 2:52 pm

imateult815000ft9 i-mate Ultimate 8150 shows its power

If there is one powerful smartphone candybar available out there, is surely this 8150. Boasting a crazy XScale PXA 270, 520 MHz processor with 128MB of RAM, powered by Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.0 Professional Operating System.

The 2.6" display has a great VGA resolution, it’s touchscreen and supports handwriting recognition.

On the connectivity side, HSDPA is Triband, sitting on 850 / 1900 / 2100 frequencies, and there is Quad-band EDGE. As usual on the latest devices released by i-mate, the 8150 has Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/e/i, as you see, it supports e and i standards on this model. Bluetooth v2.0 with A2DP support is a must, and a miniUSB port has been added.

TV-out should be in VGA resolution, for my content. The only downside seems to be the 2 megapixel camera, but this is a business phone and not multimedia orientated.
